“The end of Camelot”

"The end of Camelot”
Jamsheed Kanga, former Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) trustee and former municipal commissioner has given us an insight and educated us about the past and present status of the BPP ("The end of Camelot,” Parsiana, December 7, 2013).
He paints a gloomy picture of the present. After Universal Adult Franchise was introduced, the BPP has been hijacked by self-seeking and selfish groups who have their own agenda and are holding the community in a vice like grip.
Kanga suggests that the community should introspect and select good and sincere persons rather than those who give the best dinners and chhatopani (liquor) like Blue Label, Royal Salute, Jack Daniels, et al. How is this possible when the minds of the pachcham boodhiya, akkal na dushman, baboochuck (wise after the event, enemies of reason, backward thinking) bawas is in their plate of chicken?
He expresses regret that our Parsi Popes and padres are not of much help to sort out this mess. He also warns that dynastic rule is in the offing, as is the case on the national political scene. He wants eminent lawyers, doctors and businessmen to take some interest and lead the community.
In reality people get the government they deserve. "We all like to vote for the best man, but he’s never a candidate,” as Kin Hubbard said. Also, it is said that "The world is ruled by two great schools. Religious rogues and bigoted fools.” And so at the next elections it will be maasi no ké fooino, mamano ké kakano, géhérno ghambhar kon-no (a contest amongst cousins of present trustees, implying nepotism)?
