“G6PD deficiency”
I refer to Dr Mehroo M. Patel’s letter ("G6PD deficiency,” Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, November 21, 2008) and would like to state that, as far back as the middle of 1961, Dr J. V. Undevia, who was then associated with the Tata Memorial Hospital in Bombay, had mentioned to me that in his research on the subject he had discovered that during the malaria epidemic in that city, many Parsis had not been affected, presumably because they were G6PD deficient. He appears to have gone through the old records of the Bombay Parsi Punchayet meticulously to arrive at this conclusion.
