Happy birthday

Members of the Nagpur Parsi Gymkhana as well as their spouses and offspring are greeted over the telephone with a cheery "Happy birthday to you!” on their special day on behalf of the Gymkhana and the Shree Nagpur and Kamthi Parsi Zarthosti Anjuman. Now each one of these 570 community members from the central Indian city can look forward to receiving numerous birthday greetings because the Gymkhana has brought out a special Birthday Calendar containing their names and date of birth. A copy of this handsome booklet was forwarded to Parsiana by Shiraz Gimi, the Gymkhana’s president.

Gimi informs that the idea was first mooted by Shiraz Doongaji and the material compiled by Peshotan Mehta, both Gymkhana members. Rusi Godha, joint honorary secretary and his wife Jeroo modified it in the present format. Gimi is grateful to them for their hard work and to Sohrab Kanga for designing and printing the booklet. The team has been congratulated for this wonderful idea by Aspi Bapuna, president, Nagpur Parsi Anjuman, who feels that "this will bring the community closer together by sharing each others’ happy moments.”
Not only will this initiative further fellowship and felicity among community members, a chart showing birthdays month-wise and by age group provides invaluable demographic details. Out of a total listed population of 570, there are 31 children in the age group one to nine years; 58 aged between 10 and 19, 67 Zoroastrians in their 20s, 55 in their 30s, 85 in their 40s, 81 in their 50s, 70 in their 60s, 82 in their 70s, 38 in their 80s and three aged between 90 and 100 years. For some unfathomable reason September boasts the largest number of birthdays, 69, while February, the shortest month, has the least, a mere 33.
