“The medium and the...”

There has been an uproar in the community over the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) permitting advertisement hoardings to be set up on the Doongerwadi grounds ("The medium and the message,” Parsiana, July 7, 2007). I think it’s in our Parsi persona to constantly create controversies!
What I fail to understand is how, in many controversies concerning the BPP trustees, the name of only one trustee appears as the ‘doer?’ Isn’t it constitutionally required that any decision by the trustees must be carried out through a vote and that the majority verdict be implemented? We have seen the earlier tamasha (fracas) of trustees resigning and then regrouping for the so-called good of the community. They don’t seem to have learnt any lessons from this as once again the same trustee is allegedly at the center of this new sordid episode while the rest of the trustees seem to be mere spectators. Silence, at most times, means consent and connivance.
The charges this time are the selling of hoarding space for a pittance. It is time for some accountability and responsibility to be shown and the true picture brought before the community. Once again folks like me find themselves between the devil and the deep sea.
