President’s portrait
To honor the memory of the late Dinshaw Bapuna who had served as president of the Nagpur and Kampthi Parsi Zarthosti Anjuman for 23 years his portrait was unveiled by his successor Edul Bhagwagar at the Bilimoria Brothers Parsi Dharamshala Hall on January 23, 2002.
The young and old members of the Parsi community gathered in full strength to pay respect to the doyen of Central India’s Bapuna Group of Companies who died on July 31, 2001. The entire Bapuna family too had come from different corners of the globe to honor the patriarch. Among those who had graced the occasion were Nagpur’s well-known politicians, businessmen, industrialists, lawyers, doctors and sports personalities. The congregation was later treated to a grand dinner hosted by the Bapuna family, according to a report sent by Shiraz Gimi, president of the Nagpur Parsi Gymkhana.
A few weeks earlier Bapuna’s portraits had been installed at the Bai Hirabai Mullan Dar-e-Meher at Nagpur and the agiary at Akola, states Gimi. It was during his tenure as president of the Anjuman that the Nagpur Agiary was renovated and restored on the occasion of its centenary. When building a complex for middle-class Parsis in Nagpur, the philanthropic Bapuna had ensured that funds were never a problem for the deserving. His charities extended to diverse social and sports causes.
