The Dr Cyrus Poonawalla founded Serum Institute of India (SII) based in Poona has topped the list of India’s most valuable companies in the 2022 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500 study, reported Business Standard (BS) on December 2, 2022. Under
the stewardship of chief executive officer Adar Poonawalla, the vaccine producer’s value has increased by 20% to USD 2.2 trillion (INR 180.7 lakh crore) in the past year.
In the category of groups with multiple firms, pride of place has gone to the Tata Group which has a market value of USD 20 trillion, slightly ahead of the Adani group which is valued at USD 19.8 trillion, notes BS.
The listing is done by Hurun Report, a leading research, luxury publishing and events group established in London in 1998 with presence in India, China, France, UK, USA, Australia, Japan, Canada and Luxembourg, notes its website. It is widely recognized for its comprehensive evaluation of the wealthiest individuals across the globe. Hurun Report is the largest compiler of the rich list globally.
The cutoff date for the 2022 Burgundy Private Hurun India 500 study was October 30 this year. Only companies with headquarters in India featured in the listing — state owned concerns are excluded. The ranking is based on value determined by market capitalization.
