Significant survey
"Word of mouth is the main source through which people get our community news,” according to the preliminary findings of the Gen Z and Beyond survey undertaken by the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London to ascertain the views
of Zoroastrians to help the community plan ahead. As compared to 63% who indicated their source as word of mouth (family/friends/neighbors), 52% said traditional community newspaper or magazine, 43% indicated Zoroastrian community association website/newsletter, 42% mentioned WhatsApp/Telegram, 39% Facebook/Instagram, and 10% YouTube/Podcasts.
This finding was diagrammatically displayed in an email from the Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America urging community members to fill the survey by the December 31, 2022 project deadline. "Do you know if your family and friends have participated in the Gen Z and Beyond: A Survey for Every Generation? Not yet!! Why not?? Get them to participate as it is a once in a generation opportunity!” urged the email requesting that it be forwarded to at least five other family members or friends in whichever part of the world.
The anonymous survey is open to people aged 18 and over who have a (Iranian / Parsi / Irani) Zoroastrian parent, grandparent or spouse. "Your responses to the survey will not be connected to your email address or mobile number. Once the survey is complete your email address or phone number will be permanently deleted,” reassures their website: www.genzandbeyond.com
The email includes a quote from participant Shireen Patel, a retired teacher from St Louis, USA to convince those who have not yet taken the trouble: "I really enjoyed filling out the survey which took about half an hour. Imagine how intrigued future generations would be (not to mention our contemporaries) to learn of how we thought of our fellow Zarathushtis and of the decisions we have each chosen to make, to reflect our true selves in connecting to our Zoroastrian identity.”
I eagerly await the results of the GenZ & Beyond Survey. I responded to it and found the questions well thought through, with no loaded questions to sway the responses. The worldwide Zoroastrian community needs such a survey to help in making critical socio-religious decisions that will impact future generations.
Dear Yezdyar, Many thanks for your comment and for doing the survey. The survey is going offline at the end of the month (latest by 15 January 2023) so could I please request you to encourage all your family and friends to do it and share the website (www.genzandbeyond.com) with your contacts around the world. Also, I wonder if we can use your comment on our social media platform to promote the survey? Many thanks, Nazneen Engineer Project Manager, Gen Z and Beyond: A Survey for Every Generation
