Zoroastrian birth data
At present we do not have an authentic study of registered Parsi/Irani births except for the government census. The community is constantly made to believe that unless some drastic steps are taken, it will face extinction in the next 25 years. Hence the urgency for comprehensive factual data on the same.
Readers can help us to collect information pertaining to all children born from the year 2001 till date. This data would include name of the child, date and place of birth, names of the father and mother, as well as the mother’s maiden name, whether the birth was registered with the municipality, gram panchayat or Parsi anjuman, whether the family is listed in the last government census report, whether the family has voting rights, whether this is the first born or are there any other children in the family. Any other information pertinent to the study could also be included even from the remotest areas.
If this onerous task is undertaken by the community with zeal and enthusiasm, the information can be compiled in a scientific manner and presented. It will also allay the anxiety felt in the community that we are fast moving towards doomsday.
If readers know any other source of information to make the data more scientific and complete, please write to me at the National Commission for Minorities, Lok Nayak Bhavan, Fifth Floor, Khan Market, New Delhi 110003 or at C-12, Cusrow Baug, S. Bhagat Singh Road, Bombay 400039. Telephone 22840275.
