“The pains of gain”
How sadly true is the statement "This is where leadership comes to play. You need people who are unafraid to do what is unpopular but necessary ("The pains of gain,” Editorial Viewpoint, Parsiana, November 7, 2018).”
For this reason, the true leaders in our Parsi community — industrialists, philanthropists, doctors, writers, artists and sports people — avoid the Bombay Parsi Punchayet and its ilk because these bodies ring the death-knell for our ”enlightened” community!
Hopefully, young Parsis here and all over will reverse the damage done by these despots. NAWSHIR KHURODY

The question "Should the baugs open their doors to other communities?” in "The pains of gain” (Editorial Viewpoint, Parsiana, November 7, 2018) merits a candid response. I would surely moot it. All baugs are meant for community functions. No doubt, they were earmarked for use of Parsis but looking to the decreasing numbers and viability, I do not see any harm in renting them to other communities at a higher rate (while Parsis can benefit from a subsidized charge), thereby increasing usage and gaining some decent returns for maintenance.
Here in Ahmedabad, the Kankaria Hall and grounds, as well as the hall at Khamasa and also the Sanatorium grounds are all let out to any community at the market rate (Parsis are subsidized). As pointed out in the Editorial Viewpoint, our Parsi schools too are open for all.
