“Give and take”
I refer to Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) chairman Dinshaw Mehta’s comments on my letter "Give and take” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, April 7, 2011) wherein he states, "If one has a soft corner for the community... one should come into the ring of trustees.” It is a cruel joke. With the murky episode of Noshir Dadrawala’s trusteeship, no sane person would want to become a trustee. The present state of affairs at the BPP would make the sanest man insane!
B. T. DASTUR
With reference to the letter "Give and take” by B. T. Dastur (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, April 7, 2011), if persons like Dastur were politically inclined they could muster up a group of like-minded people to oust the bigots at the Bombay Parsi Punchayet who are siphoning off the community’s finances. Another election could bring in true believers of the faith to look after the properties and not dictate on religion. It is sad that Noshir Dadrawala threw in the towel; he is made of sterner stuff and has a legal brain on charity matters. He would have been useful to the community.
It is unfortunate that even today there are persons who believe in the efficiency and honesty of the current trustees. This only shows that we get carried away by speeches and food, and fail to use our independent intelligence. Instead of rejoicing in a plateful of dhan dar patio prepared by a family member we salivate over meals from the queen of Parsi food from the kitchens of the Dockyard Road lady.
