Verve and vibes
Impressed with the "amazing choreography, wonderfully synchronized performances and the hard work the parents and kids have put in,” chief guest Rushaad Rana, a television artiste, commended the Godrej Baug Residents Welfare Association (GBRWA) that had brought 83 of its amateur performers on stage for its popular biennial program, Vibrations 2017. The energetic performances, pulsating music, scintillating lights, sigdi delicacies ensured that the audience assembled at the Baug’s Eco Park on November 4, 2017 stayed on till the end.
The nine dance items that evoked the spirit of China, Spain, Australia, Latin America, Africa, Bollywood, Broadway, USA and Arabia, were followed by four fashion shows that sought to introduce an element of mystery, Hawaii, Indo-Western fusion and a global potpourri. The youngest participant was two-and-a-half-year-old Hannah Khambatta while the eldest was Ervad Yezdi Panthaki, former president of GBRWA.

"Vibrations is not all about naach gana (dance and music),” pointed out GBRWA president Farhad Hozdar, adding, it "helps our youth to come alive and develop not only their skills in the art of dancing but also express themselves in choreographing the various sequences, creative thinking, focusing, stage confidence and of course the skill of hosting an event in this very competitive world… We at Godrej Baug should be proud of this wonderful intangible asset which…brings us together every alternate year.”
In his message in the souvenir, Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) chairman Yazdi Desai commented, "Apart from being a platform that fosters camaraderie amongst the residents, it also provides our youth a chance to mingle, make friends and forge lasting relationships (akin to the BPP matrimonial meet and possibly more successful).”
The second chief guest Marzi Pestonji, a reputed dancer and choreographer with the Shiamak Davar International Dance School, was initially reluctant to address the gathering but once BPP trustee Viraf Mehta joined the distinguished guests, he was spurred to publicly needle him. The forlorn and abandoned outer shell of the ownership building at Godrej Baug being a mute spectator to the thriving Eco Park across the alley, Mehta was asked when the building would be ready. Since Mehta was seated in the front row, the audience never got to know his response. Unfortunately, the gathering did not get to view Pestonji’s dance skills as the organizers were running against time.
The Vibrations core committee responsible for the success of the event were Nazneen Dastur, Merzi Anklesaria, Kainaaz Mehta, Rumi Marawalla, Havovi Pastakia, Bomi Dastur, and Nilufer Nasirabadwala, chairperson, organizing committee, who had to summon all their patience to deal with the boundless energy of the four-to-six-year-olds, the enthusiastic seven-to-nine-year-olds, the budding 10 to 14-year-olds, the tireless teens and young adults, and the eager mums and dads.
