Milestones
This issue carries the causes of deaths of those Zoroastrians who were consigned to Bombay’s Doongerwadi in August 2016 (as the same was not available to us earlier).
Pneumonia/lung disease beat heart disease to be the major killer disease in August, claiming 18 Zoroastrians. Four of the nine victims who fell prey to heart disease were over their 80 year milestone. The other killers were: cancer (eight), old age/general debility, brain disease and kidney failure (three each) and hypertension, liver disease and septicemia (two each). Alzheimer’s disease, vivax malaria, urosepsis, diabetes, anemia and multi organ failure took the lives of one patient each. The youngest to breathe his last was a 32-year-old male; the oldest: a lady at 102! The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for August 2016 in Bombay was 81 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by one hospital — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased alongwith their ages, addesses and causes of deaths are forwarded to Parsiana by the BPP. The trust however notes that the information has not been verified or authenticated by them. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
If readers have any births/ marriages/deaths they would like published, some proof to ensure the veracity of the report would be required. We are sure our readers would appreciate this requirement and cooperate with us.
