“Building and breaking...”
In your editorial "Building and breaking barriers” (Parsiana, May 21, 2016), you refer to a book that has the wrong attribution of the sugar in milk story to Qissa-I Sanjan. On further querying, it turns out that the book you have referred to is The Good Life was not published by FEZANA (Federation of Zoroastrian Associations of North America). The book, since its first edition in the early 1980s has been published by the Zoroastrian Association of Greater New York (ZAGNY). ZAGNY is a founding member association of FEZANA, however all its publications are its own, and FEZANA has no say in the titles or their contents.
Your emails were probably sent to ZAGNY members and not to the FEZANA executive, and hence you did not receive a response from FEZANA.
We welcome your observation that the youth in Bombay do not know about FEZANA, the apex body representing largest diaspora of Zoroastrians outside of India. I will request our public relations committee chairperson to seek out ways and means to bring awareness to the Parsi youth in India.
On the other hand, I would gladly point out that the youth in North America are aware and familiar with the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP). North American Zoroastrian youth, through programs like the Zoroastrian Return To Roots, get opportunities to visit Bombay and interact with BPP trustees on a regular basis when in India. FEZANA’s ultimate goal is that youth globally interact via various means of communication today to get a better understanding of each other living in varied diaspora but united by our common religion. Parsiana regrets the error and the embarrassment caused to FEZANA.
