Milestones

In order to publish more current Milestones information Parsiana will carry the names of the deceased from the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) website bpppaidust.in and of those cremated and/or whose funerary ceremonies were performed at the new Worli Prayer Hall. The names of those cremated are sent to us by Prayer Hall coordinator Ervad Framroze Mirza, by e-mail.
Due to the courts being closed for the summer holidays, Parsiana could not access the names of the couples who tied the knot in April. The same will be published in a forthcoming issue.
The last few names of those deceased in end April 2016 find mention here as well as those who passed away till May 10.
An alarming divide was noticeable in the birth (seven) and death (59) figures for the month. All seven babies were boys!
While 12 patients succumbed to diseases of the heart (seven of them over 80 years), eight fell prey to cancer. Brain disease and old age/general debility took the lives of six Zoroastrians each. While a family of four perished in a road accident, another four were victims of kidney failure. Diabetes claimed three lives and liver disease and hypothyroidism (a group of sypmtoms caused by the deficiency of thyroid secretion), two each. There were 10 isolated causes of deaths. They were: paralysis, thrombocytopenia (a reduction in the number of platelets in the blood), polyarteritis (inflammation of many arteries), blood clot, multi organ failure, hypertension, aneurysm (dilation of a blood vessel), urosepsis, hyponatraemia (decreased sodium in the blood) and hypertension. The coroner’s report was still pending in the case of one death. A 24-year-old youth was also lost to the community. While a 97-year-old female was the eldest to breathe her last, the youngest was an 11-year-old boy who was a victim of a road accident. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for April 2016 in Bom­bay was 76 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by one hospital — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
If readers have any births/ marriages/deaths they would like pub­lished, some proof to ensure the veracity of the report would be required. We are sure our readers would appreciate this re­quire­ment and cooperate with us.
