Rest, relax, repair
Bowen Technology (Bowtech) will now be available at Salt Escape, the salt therapy spa in Bombay (see "Salt therapy for wellness,” Parsiana, July 7, 2015) twice a week, owners Lyla and Jamsheed Mehta informed Parsiana at the Bowen launch on April 7, 2016. Farida Irani of Sydney who brought the Australian therapy to India in 2003, addressed those present at the spa on the occasion. Salt therapy and Bowtech are not in conflict and can be availed of simultaneously, Irani explained. She has trained a number of practitioners in Bombay, her first trainee being Freny Palia who is an instructor today. Practitioner Kaizeen Palia will perform Bowtech at the Salt Escape venue.

Rest, relax, repair is how the technique works for those suffering from various chronic disorders. Bowen is a non-invasive therapy where specific moves are made on ligaments, tendons or muscles which most likely activate the Golgi receptors and send signals to the brain, the neurological pathways, the fascia, also activating the meridians, and the electromagnetic field of the person. Unlike other treatments the body does its own rectification and the will of the practitioner is not imposed on the client.
Developed by Tom Bowen of Geelong, Australia, who successfully treated 13,000 patients a year, the technique was continued at the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia founded by Oswald and Elaine Rentsch who worked with Bowen and documented his technique. They began to teach it after Bowen’s death, and have since taken the technique to over 25 countries worldwide. There is now a Bowen (Bowtech) Association of India information on which is available at www.bowentherapyindia.com
Among the other initiatives introduced at Salt Escape are an hour-long story telling session on Tuesdays for children aged between two-and-a-half and four-and-a-half years. This will be conducted by Roxana Kavarana to keep children happily engaged while receiving the beneficial effects of the salt therapy. Gentle yoga and meditation, to be run by Asheesh Antia, are also on the cards at Salt Escape, the Mehtas shared with Parsiana.
