The last few names of those deceased in end February 2016 find mention here as well as those who passed away till March 10.
Forty-five Zoroastrians opted to be consigned to the Bombay Towers of Silence in February 2016 while only seven births were reported.
The age of Zoroastrian brides (as listed in this issue) ranged between 22 and 50 years, the arithmetic mean — the total number of individual ages divided by the total number of brides — being 29 years. The corresponding figures for the grooms were 24 and 52 years, averaging at 31 years.
The major killer — heart disease — took the lives of 14 patients of whom 11 were over 80 years. The other killer diseases were: lung disease/pneumonia (five), brain disease and cancer (four each), general debility/old age and kidney failure (three each) and septicemia (two). Single causes of death were attributed to leukemia, diabetes, haematoma (a swelling filled with blood), liver disease, urosepsis, osteoporosis, AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome), multi organ failure, Parkinson’s disease and bedsores. Fifty-two and 95 were the lowest and highest ages at death. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for Februray 2016 in Bombay was 81 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by one hospital — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
