The last few names of those deceased in end January 2016 find mention here as well as those who passed away till February 7.
Based on the information from one south Bombay hospital and families who provide copies of birth certificates there were only five babies born in the first month of the new year. Deaths at Bombay’s Doongerwadi numbered 64.
Seventeen Zoroastrians were victims of various diseases of the heart (nine of them had crossed their 80-year-old milestone). The other major disease to claim 15 lives was pneumonia/lung disease. While five patients fell prey to cancer, four succumbed to septicemia and three each to multi organ failure, old age/general debility and hypertension. Two patients each were victims of cellulitis (inflammation of connective tissue), Parkinson’s disease and hemiplegia (paralysis of one side of the body). Seven single deaths were attributed to diabetes, kidney failure, shock and haemorrhage due to multiple injuries, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, brain disease and urinary tract infection. In the case of one death, the coroner’s report was pending. The youngest and eldest to breathe their last were both males: a three-month-old and a 107-year-old! The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the first month of the new year in Bombay was 79 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anjumans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anjumans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by one hospital — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.

ERRATUM
In the Milestones colum of January 21, 2016 Parsiana had published a birth announcement of a girl being born to Simeen and Minoo Engineer on December 5, 2015. Infact twin girls were born to the Engineers who have named them Ava and Nicole. Parsiana regrets the error.
