Parsis are poor readers
After having published nine books and given them away free to some friends, colleagues and neighbors — largely Parsis — I find, to my dismay, that many Parsis are poor readers, or read low end books!
Their indifference to serious knowledge comes through during any social get-togethers or at a dinner table. If this trend persists, very many may be left out because of the competition today, to our undoing.
As actress Emilia Clarke had said, "Be suspicious of a man whose TV is larger than his library.”
Until one generation back I used to find large libraries in Parsi homes. The size of the libraries is diminishing (not only among Parsis) and that of video libraries is taking over. A sad development for any community, but sadder for the Parsis, who have been torchbearers for about 150 years. B. T. DASTUR
