Dancing for a cause

By Sherene Vakil · February 21, 2015
A scintillating dance performance by the Shiamak Davar troupe was organized by the Lions Club of Byculla under the stewardship of Capt Percy Master, the fund-raising chairman, at the St Andrew’s Auditorium on January 21, 2015, for the Club’s rural upliftment project. As Master explained to the full house, the Club has adopted three villages — Zavda and Vaghai in the Dangs district and Sasad in Navsari district — where villagers living in pathetic conditions will be provided the basic necessities of life by the Club, mentions a write-up on the event received by Parsiana. All proceeds from the event will be added to the corpus of the Club to promote development in the adopted villages as well as for the various charitable activities conducted throughout the year, he stated.

Master welcomed chief guest for the evening Neville Mehta, international secretary, Lions International for India, South Asia, Africa and Middle East, who was accompanied by his wife Tina. Also present were Lions district governor Santosh Kumar Chauhan and his wife, Richard Bale, consul general for Canada and Saroja Sirisena, consul general for Sri Lanka. Master expressed gratitude to the sponsors of the event, the Master Group, Samsara Shipping, Mahendra Finance, Mahendra Life Space, Mankind Pharma and Bajaj Allianz.
A brief audiovisual presented by Zeenia Master of Xenia Hospitality Solutions LLP brought out the aims and objects of Lionism and the work done by the Club. Earlier that evening the gathering had enjoyed cocktails and refreshments catered by Adil Bhesadia, a member of the Club. The energetic dance extravaganza enthralled for 30 minutes prior to the interval. Post-interval, stand-up comedian Neville Bharucha’s short act had the audience in splits. Davar’s troupe returned with a mélange of Bollywood song and dance numbers and during the finale urged enthusiastic members of the audience of all ages to join them on the stage and shake a leg, which many willingly did.
