Among the givers
A number of Zoroastrians featured in the ranking of the top 50 Indian philanthropists who had given at least Rs 50 crores during 2014 in a list put together by Hurun Research Institute in China. Ratan Tata ranked fourth, having given Rs 630 crores, followed by Ronnie and Zarina Screwvala who stood eighth, having donated Rs 350 crore. Adi Godrej and family, with Rs 73 crores, was 17th in the list, while Pallonji Mistry who had done charity to the tune of Rs 60 crores stood 21st. Anu Aga, ranked at 41 and having given away Rs 14 crores, is the only individual woman to feature on the list which is available on the Institute’s website.
This is the second year that the China based Institute has brought out a list of Indians donating at least Rs 10 crore. Heading the list for the second successive time is information technology czar Azim Premji whose donation of Rs 12,316 crores from the Azim Premji Foundation, made between April 2013 and October 2014, eclipsed those of the others, reported The Times of India (TOI) on January 6, 2015. The current list has 31 additional entries than last year’s, with 27 new faces.
