Book Notes
Medical handbook
Sheheryar Kabraji, clinical fellow in medicine, Harvard Medical School, Boston and resident in medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, has collaborated with Neel Burton, medical student tutor, Green Templeton College, University of Oxford to produce Clinical Skills for Medical Students, a handbook which will be an invaluable resource for medical students worldwide.
Described as "A comprehensive summary for wards and boards,” the handbook was published in 2012. The spiral bound compendium sent to Parsiana, which appears to have been photocopied on A-4 size paper, covers skills and procedures across the gamut of medical practice. Write the authors: "The book’s core aim is to equip medical students and junior trainees with the skills to succeed in clinical practice. Its unique advantage is to provide detailed but concise step-by-step instructions not only on history-taking and physical examination, but also on other clinical skills… that are seldom found in other textbooks… We hope that our little book may serve as your guide and companion as you prepare for a lifetime in clinical practice.”
Under the 11 general heads over 90 areas are covered including cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, psychiatry, pediatrics, obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics, pain control and communication skills. Replete with helpful drawings, diagrams and statistics, the book has been published by Scion Publishing Limited, The Old Hayloft, Vantage Business Park, Bloxham Road, Banbury, Oxfordshire, OX16 9UX, UK; website: www.scionpublishing.com. There is no mention of price.
