PZASH on Facebook

By Sherene Vakil · December 7, 2014
In sync with the times, the Parsi Zoroastrian Anjuman of Secunderabad and Hyderabad (PZASH) established its presence on Facebook on March 21, 2013, mentions PZASH trustee Jehangir R. Bisney in an email sent to Parsiana. In the year-and-a-half since its launch the page is "extremely alive with several updates every day” fulfilling its purpose as a means to keep the community abreast with current news and historical information about Zoroastrians worldwide, mentions Bisney who has been administering the page since its inception. The page is free with no costs involved other than his own time, mentions the chartered accountant and community activist.

Jehangir Bisney: connecting the community

People who use https://www.facebook.com/ParsiZoroastrianAnjuman need to press the ‘Like’ button to receive regular notifications for every new post on the page. So far the page has garnered 3,000 ‘Likes’ from Zoroastrians as well as non-Zoroastrians globally which is creditable for a microscopic community and a relatively small anjuman of India. Based on the ‘Likes’ the PZASH page ranks among the top Zoroastrian specific Facebook pages in India, Bisney claims.
Explaining the advantages of a Facebook page vis-à-vis a website, Bisney explains that information posted on the page is received directly where the audience spends most of its time connecting with friends and family. Updates pop into their timelines the second they are posted, placing the news instantly before their eyes, unlike in a website which would have to be specifically accessed.
