Taleyarkhan’s tragic end
"He was one of the most loved persons. He would do a lot of charity for poor boys and girls,” a family member informed The Times of India (TOI) of September 4, 2014. Rasheid Taleyarkhan, 69, a Bombay stockbroker locked himself in his house off Warden Road and shot himself on September 3, 2014. According to the police, he had been tense and depressed over the past two years, reported TOI. Taleyarkhan’s 33-year-old son Jamie, who lived with him, found the body on his return from work. The news of his death received extensive coverage in all the newspapers in Bombay.
Rasheid Taleyarkhan: much loved
Taleyarkhan was also an experienced pilot and had done much to revive the fortunes of the Bombay Flying Club. An activist, he was associated with the Narmada Bachao Andolan as well as the Kinara Bachao movement to prevent the development of a commercial port on the coast of Gujarat that would destroy the bio diversity of the region. Close friend Prof Farok Contractor who resides in the US, on receiving the news, replied: "For two years friends tried to get him to share his troubles but he would not open up.”
Taleyarkhan’s wife Jill who lives in the UK and daughter Rashne who resides in Australia were present at the cremation along with son Jamie and sister Gitanjali Khanna. The cremation took place on September 6, 2014 at the Chandanwadi crematorium. Many persons, including family, friends, employees and recipients of his goodwill attended Taleyarkhan’s funeral.
