Appeal for Kanpur agiary
The Byramjee Nowrojee Javeri Dar-e-Meher is the oldest fire temple in north India and the only functional one in Uttar Pradesh. The Cawnpore Parsee Anjuman, Kanpur intends to undertake major repair work along with painting and renovating the fire temple. This has not been done for a number of years due to paucity of funds. We require donations for the purpose.
The Parsis of Kanpur number just 35 today and the source of income for the fire temple is negligible as against the expenses entailed in maintaining it. Priests come from Bombay by rotation, as no one is willing to live here on a permanent basis. The priest who was looking after the agiary has become very old and is unwell. We have to look after him as well as the priests who come from Bombay.
