MILESTONES

Births, marriages and deaths taken place primarily in the former half of November 2013 are carried in this issue.
As the liaison person at the Bombay High Court was on leave, names of couples who tied the knot during this period will be published in the next issue.
Between November 1-15 the Bombay Doongerwadi interred the bodies of 26 community members. As per one south Bombay hospital that sends us birth data and families who provide copies of birth certificates babies born in the community numbered only four.
Five of the six who perished due to various diseases of the heart were over the age of 80. Cancer and brain disease felled four patients each. Three Zoroastrians each were victims of urosepsis and pneumonia/lung disease. One patient succumbed to dementia, urinary tract infection, hypertension, old age/general debility, septicemia, cellulitis (inflammation of connective tissue) and multi organ failure. The oldest and youngest ages at death were 96 and 60 years. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the first 15 days of November in Bom­bay, was 82 years.
The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bom­bay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
