The Red Cross has been operating an outpatients’ department and offering diagnostic services in Poona for many years. Noshir Nanavatti, chairman of the Poona branch claims that all services are offered at a substantially lower cost so that needy patients are benefitted. X-rays cost Rs 100, a sonography is done for just Rs 300 and for those who cannot afford even this, tests can be conducted free of charge, the email reveals. With the Poona branch nearing its century in 2020, Noshir says they have already started planning for the milestone occasion and hope to install a much needed MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) unit at that time.
The new ophthalmology unit has a modern operation theater and the latest equipment, while the cardiology unit has investigative facilities for early and accurate diagnosis of heart ailments. The Poona Red Cross plans to upgrade this to a full-fledged treatment center with its own cardiac cathlab and walk-in-walk-out ambulatory angioplasty, the email states.
