Kotwal calls it a day

Ervad Shorab Kotwal, who stepped down as panthaky of the The Late Ervad Dhunjeebhoy Byramjee Mehta’s Zoroastrian Anjuman Atash Adaran in Calcutta was given a fond farewell by the community at the Olpadvala Memorial Hall on March 29, 2013, mentions Calcutta Gavashni, January-March 2013, which was sent to Parsiana over the email.

Kotwal and his wife Bapsy were escorted to the dais and senior trustees Noshir Tankariwala, Noomi Mehta and trustees from the Calcutta Zoroastrian Community’s Religious and Charity Fund spoke on the occasion. Tankariwala presented Kotwal with a shawl while his wife Roshni garlanded Bapsy. Vahista Dastoor handed over a bouquet and Rajasree Bilimoria a shawl. A silver memento was presented to the outgoing panthaky by trustee Y. Dastoor. The Adaran Trust presented a cheque to the priest and another one was proffered by generous and grateful community members. Trustee Jemi Bilimoria handed a maan patra (scroll of honor) to Kotwal, Gavashni notes.
An audio visual entertainment program was enjoyed by those present, culminating in the singing of Auld Lang Syne during which some 20 persons, young and old, waved lighted candles in a farewell gesture. This was followed by a buffet dinner hosted by the Adaran’s trustees which was savored by 275 persons.
