Doyen of dentistry
The first symposium on Ethical Marketing and Practice Management organized by the Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) was inaugurated by Prof (Dr) Keki Mistry on June 16, 2013. A founding father of the IOS in 1965, created to promote the cause of Indian orthodontics, the venerable clinician, teacher and researcher has inspired students to work hard, attain excellence in all spheres of life — professional, personal and spiritual — over the last 52 years, mentions a write-up sent to Parsiana by Dr Nikhilesh R. Vaid, consultant orthodontist and dentofacial orthopedician at Bombay’s Breach Candy Hospital who is vice president of IOS.

Dr Keki Mistry: service to dentistry
Over 100 orthodontists from all over the world listened enthralled as Mistry recalled an incident when the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had told him that the "impact of services by dentists to the nation needs to increase.” He also explained how he strove to change that perception over the years in the various positions he occupied. Today dental specialists are accorded equal status with medical specialists in most government job profiles, Mistry claimed.
It was an emotional experience for students of the senior orthodontist who had an opportunity to spend time and reminisce with him. Among those present was Mistry’s son Rushitum, also an orthodontist, who is now the torchbearer of this legacy of service to the profession, Vaid concludes.
