Vocational excellence

The Rotary Club of Bombay Hills South, under the presidentship of Gayomard Panthaki, honored three persons with Vocational Excellence Awards at a function at the Taj Mahal Palace and Hotel in Bombay on June 20, 2013, mentions a write-up received by Parsiana from Godrej Dotivala, Rotary’s district chairman.

Among the honorees is social worker Zarine Chothia whose activities include working for disabled children from underprivileged families, forming a clinic for women’s ailments at Worli’s BDD Chawls, organizing garden sales from the proceeds of which clothes were bought for newborn children at the Wadia Maternity Hospital and a phototherapy machine to diagnose and treat jaundice in newborns. Her work with the Society for the Education of the Crippled was highlighted in an earlier issue (see "Living their dreams,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, July 7, 2013).
Nauzer Bharucha, senior editor with The Times of India was similarly honored for his contribution to the field of journalism. Starting as a reporter with The Independent in May 1992, he has actively participated in journalistic programs in Japan, Sweden and Singapore and specializes in topics such as housing, urban development and environment. This year he won the Mumbai Press Club Red Ink Award for exposing the politician-bureaucrat-contractor nexus (see "Award for scribe,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, July 21, 2013).
President of the Seva Sadan Society, Guddi Advani was the third person to receive the award from the Rotary Club. The business executive has been associated with this century old charitable organization working for the care, upliftment and empowerment of girls from underprivileged homes since the past decade.
