Dedicated to innovation

By Sherene Vakil · April 7, 2013
Printed and published by Maneck Davar’s Spenta Multimedia on behalf of Marico Innovation Foundation, Innowin is described on the cover of its inaugural issue (March 2013) as "India’s first magazine dedicated to Innovation.” Priced at Rs 100 per copy, the quarterly magazine aims to share the not-for-profit Foundation’s "access to world class content on innovation,” mentions editor Milind Sarwate in his Editorial. "Business and entrepreneurship-related magazines abound” and though they "liberally use the word ‘innovation,’… not one focuses on innovation itself,” he adds.
Harsh Mariwala, chairman and managing director of Marico Limited writes in his Foreword that "Innovation has been, since inception, a cornerstone of Marico’s value creation strategy… We formed Marico Innovation Foundation (in 2003) with the objective of fuelling innovation in India.” This magazine is "committed to creating a culture of innovation… (and) to reverse the flow of innovative thinking from the West to India.”
Innowin features articles on innovation from the classroom to the workspace, leaders and integrators in the field, reviews of books on the theme and achievers. One chapter is devoted to Shaheen Mistri’s NGO (nongovernmental organization) Teach For India which she founded and helms. Under this umbrella organization dedicated teachers have provided educational opportunities for thousands of underprivileged children. Among the galaxy of achievers on the governing council of the Foundation are industrialists Anu Aga and Dr Naushad Forbes, as well as advertising innovator Sam Balsara and psephologist Dorab Sopariwala.
