“Anti-aviary campaign”
With reference to the letter "Anti-aviary campaign” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, December 7, 2012) Khurshed Pastakia needs to enquire into the following matters:
Why was the aviary project shelved in 2001? The high priests had then reportedly placed full confidence in the ability of Jemima Parry-Jones, the international authority on raptors. Pastakia should ask the overzealous pro-aviary group why they did not "revive” this issue after being elected as Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) trustees in 2008, i.e. four years back. He should also ask those who have revived this controversy in 2012 why they have not sought the expert advice of Parry-Jones and why one of the trustees claimed in early 2012 that the (present) system was working well.
When the (wrist and) palm of a corpse was found near the Shapoorji Fakirji Jokhi fire temple in Godrej Baug, BPP trustee Khojeste Mistree had said: "Suddenly, this is found. It could have come from anywhere; there are two crematoriums in the vicinity. This is a sensitive issue; people are trying to re-start a controversy. The system is working well and there has been no controversy for the last two-three years. Why resurrect it?” His words are reproduced from a report titled "Should Parsis promote funeral alternatives?” by Manoj Nair which appeared in DNA of March 14, 2012 and is available on the portal Parsi Khabar.
Pastakia should now introspect about who started the controversy.
