Scroll of honor for Mehta

The VasKON Plenary Award Scroll of Honor was presented to ophthalmologist Dr Keiki Mehta by Dr K. Premraj, chief mentor of the Vasan Eye Care at the Vasan Eye Hospital’s international congress, VasKON 2012 in Madras on May 6, 2012. This is the highest award of the Hospital, reportedly the world’s largest multi-central eye facility with 100 branches, notes an e-mail received by Parsiana from Luciano Gomes.

The award came in recognition of Mehta’s lifetime of service to ophthalmology — his spearheading the introduction of intraocular implants in India and pioneering the technique of phaco emulsification. With multiple discoveries and developments to his credit, and for devising new and outstanding surgical techniques, Vasan acknowledged him as "the legendary ophthalmologist,” the e-mail states.
Mehta is the surgical chief and medical director of the Mehta International Eye Institute, considered Asia’s foremost eye institute, affiliated with the ONO Clinique de l’Oeil Eye Institute in Geneva, Switzerland and the St Luke’s Eye Institute in Texas, USA, the e-mail concludes.
