Domus for design

Domus, the magazine on architecture and design which was first published in Milan, Italy, over eight decades ago, now has a local presence thanks to Spenta Multimedia which has brought out an Indian edition. "Domus in India is the first international edition of Domus entirely published in the English language. The parent edition is published bilingually in Italian and English,” notes Maneck Davar, editor and publisher, in the inaugural issue of November 2011. "We are convinced that Domus will be an important tool for Indian design professionals,” he adds.

"If an exposition carries within its mandate the recognition of responsibility towards its pluralistic consumer, Domus arrives in the subcontinent with a bagful of duties,” states executive editor Radhika Desai. With city and village opening up borders, becoming sites of exchange and direction, collaboration and transformation, architecture, technology, design and quotidian culture come to represent the zeitgeist of the subcontinent, she explains.
Joseph Grima, editor of Domus International, while welcoming the advent of the new edition, mentions that the magazine "today exists not as a single centralized publication but as a worldwide network capable of capturing in detail... the currents, tendencies and innovations that shape the profession in a new millennium.” Currently, Domus has editions in China, Arabia and the Middle East, Israel and Central America.
The contents comprise a happy mix of articles by Indian and international contributors printed in coffee table book format on glossy art paper, replete with photographs, diagrams and, of course advertisements.
