Solicitors in Singapore

The 128-year-old Bombay based law firm Wadia Ghandy and Company now has a presence in Singapore. As of December last, its office at One Raffles Quay building has been fully operational when two more partners secured licences to practice there, reported Mint in its edition of December 9, 2011. Nicole Shroff, one of the two partners now in Singapore told Mint, "We are certainly seeing very, very good prospects for legal development over here.” Wadia Ghandy received the licence to operate in the island city from the attorney general of Singapore in June last year.
"Singapore has, over the years, become a hub for Asia. All our top clients have their head offices there and it felt really inappropriate to just service them from India,” Bombay based partner Ashish Ahuja told Mint. Although courtroom appearances are not allowed, lawyer licences permit the Indian firm to offer legal advice in a number of fields. It can also instruct local counsel in arbitration under Indian law, and as Shroff puts it, "Singapore is quite a sought after arbitration center.” Other services include legal advice concerning private equity involving foreign companies investing in India or Indian companies investing abroad or listing on the Singapore stock exchange. Mergers and acquisitions are also dealt with by Wadia Ghandy.
The firm, which has 150 lawyers on its rolls and 24 partners, also opened an office in Delhi in October 2011.
