Top law officer
Darius Khambata was appointed the advocate general (AG) of Maharashtra on March 26, 2012, three days before his 51st birthday. The former additional solicitor general (ASG) became Maharashtra’s top law officer after Ravi Kadam resigned from the post two months earlier. As ASG, Khambata represented the central government in many high profile cases like the Adarsh Society scam.

Darius Khambata: man of proven competence
"It’s an excellent choice,” said Goolam Vahanvati, the attorney general for India and former AG, "The center’s loss is the state’s gain.” The new appointment will see Khambata shift his office from one to another on the same floor of the Bombay High Court.
The low profile lawyer is a Harvard Law alumnus and a member of the London Court of International Arbitration. He has a "formidable reputation for the most painstaking preparation of his matters,” as noted the Bombay Bar Association when Khambata was appointed ASG in July 2009. "He will make one of the finest AGs we have seen in a long time,” said senior counsel Janak Dwarkadas. His predecessor, Kadam, endorsed the chief minister’s choice of "a man of proven competence.”
