Seven of the top 40 law firms in India are headed or managed or were started by Parsis, as revealed in the ranking list prepared by the London based firm RSG Consulting. Ranking second is AZB, headed by Zia Modi and Bahram Vakil, and fourth is J. Sagar Associates where solicitor and Parsiana columnist Berjis Desai is the managing partner. The list was published in Mint on April 28, 2015. Others featuring in the top 40 are Wadia Ghandy and Company with Noshir Sethna, Bharucha and Partners with Marezban Bharucha, Kanga and Company, Mulla and Mulla and Craigie Blunt and Caroe with Burjor Antia and others as well as the Rustom Gagrat led firm, Gagrats.
The annual rankings, which have been produced since 2008, are based on 35 data sets across four main criteria — capacity, profile, quality of mandates and client satisfaction, explains Mint. RSG Consulting’s survey involved 160 law firms and reviews from over 500 clients. Among the "firms which punch well above their weight by size” was Bharucha and Partners, RSG noted. Clients have expressed greater satisfaction with these law firms and many international clients say they prefer to use top quality smaller firms where they are more likely to receive attention, Mint reported.
