Tata’s chairman designate
We congratulate Cyrus Pallonji Mistry, aged 43, on being selected as chairman designate of Tata Sons Limited, the holding group. He will take over from the chairman Ratan Tata in December 2012.
Mistry will be the second person from outside the Tata family after Nowroji Saklatwala to head the group in 142 years. Incidentally, will any reader be able to enlighten us about why Saklatwala was chosen to head the Tata Group (1932-38)?
The Mistry family, which holds about 18 percent stake in Tata Sons, is its largest individual shareholder. Mistry’s ability to govern the mammoth Tata empire worth $ 83.3 billion (around Rs 3,79,675 crore) will be tested after Ratan Tata hands over the baton to him.
