“Selecting a successor”
I refer to the item "Selecting a successor” (Business, Parsiana, August 21, 2010). Tata Sons Limited (holding company) has constituted a panel of five eminent persons to elect/select the best candidate to succeed Ratan Tata to carry forward the Tata legacy.
The panelists have to answer a $ 70 billion question to find out the most suitable person for the job. Whoever ultimately emerges the winner, he/she would be either a member of the Tata family or else a non-Tata family candidate which will usher in the end of the family tag for good.
Let the candidate’s name be announced on the auspicious Founder’s Day, March 3, 2011, so that the person has ample time — a year-and-a-half before Ratan Tata retires on December 28, 2012 — to be groomed by the latter just as he himself was groomed by the late J. R. D. Tata.
