Milestones data, primarily for the latter half of August 2010, is published here.

The age of Zoroastrian brides (as listed in this issue) ranged between 37 and 44 years, the arithmetic mean — the total number of individual ages divided by the total number of brides — being 41 years. The corresponding figures for the grooms were 39 respectively, averaging at 39 years.

As per the data that Parsiana receives from the two hospitals in south Bombay, only five babies were born during August 16-31. The Doongerwadi in Bombay consigned the bodies of 48 Zoroastrians. Eight of the 12 who perished due to heart related problems were 80 years and over. Nine patients succumbed to pneumonia/lung disease, five died due to cancer while four fell prey to malaria. General debility/old age, sepsis, kidney failure and multi organ failure claimed two lives each. Sinus, meningioma (a slowly growing fibrous tumor arising in the surrounding membranes of the brain and spinal cord), uremia, virus infection, brain disease, colitis (inflammation of the colon), gastro-intestinal bleed, hemiparesis (a slight paralysis or weakness of one half of the face or body), hypertension and Parkinson’s were isolated killers. The youngest and the eldest to breathe their last were both males: one a 42-year-old and the other, one short of his centenary. The mean age at death of Zoroastrians for the last 15 days of August, in Bom­bay, was 79 years.

The data on births, marriages and deaths has been compiled from information supplied by various newsletters and anju­mans in India and abroad, courts and hospitals. This information is not always complete or consistent: we are unable to carry data from areas where the anju­mans do not furnish the particulars; the birth figures for Bombay are supplied by two hospitals — births in suburban hospitals and private nursing homes are not included unless individuals send us information together with a copy of the birth certificate. There may be an inadvertent repetition of names in the marriage list when a civil marriage precedes a religious ceremony. The names of the deceased are supplied by the Bombay Parsi Pun­chayet. In the break-up of deaths according to illnesses, especially of the elderly, death is often due to a combination of several diseases.
