WZO-India’s outreach
The World Zoroastrian Oganisation (WZO)-India, under the presidentship of Dadi B. Engineer has been actively extending help in various ways to poor Zoroastrians. During the Navroz season committee members Bahadur Mistry, Soonoo N. Andhyarujina, Mehernosh Zaveri, Minoo Khan, Zubin Bharucha and volunteer Perin J. Irani visited the H. M. Petit Widows’ Home at Thakurdwar and the M. M. Petit Widows’ Home in the Fort area where they distributed food packets to the residents, as per a press release received from the Organisation.
The committee members also organized an eye checkup program for the students of the Bai Avabai Petit Girls’ School in Bandra. Optometrist Farhad Bharucha and Hufrish Bharucha willingly lent their expertise in this act of social service. The WZO-India committee members distributed 130 school bags to needy girls studying at the School. Additionally, they provided 12 ceiling fans to the institution, donated by a well-wisher of WZO-India. Another institute where committee members spent time with the inmates was the Pallonji Shapoorji Home for Senior Citizens on the grounds of the B. D. Petit Parsee General Hospital. The residents commended the facilities the Home offered them.

On April 10, 2010 a gahanbar was organized by WZO-India at Cama Baug which was attended by around 825 persons. Marazban Mehta kept everybody entertained with his lively music at the gahanbar where about 675 needy Zoroastrians were fed, the press release mentions. Among those felicitated on the occasion was committee member Silloo P. Mahava, social worker and stage/film artiste who has also appeared in a number of advertisements. The friendly and outgoing volunteer was honored for her work for the underprivileged through this organization as well as through Young Rathestars, Frohar Foundation and Parsi Resource Group.
