Canine chic

With the advent of the rainy season people bring their raincoats and umbrellas out of storage or shop for new rainwear. And this year the owners of some lucky dogs will be able to buy their pampered pets designer rainwear from Aanchal Malhi’s one-stop dog shop in Colaba, It’s a Dog’s Life, reported Hindustan Times Café on May 29, 2010. Sonya Vajifdar, who had designed fancy rainwear for humans last year (see "New look rainwear,” Events and Personalities, Parsiana, August 7, 2009) has used her flair to create raincoats for pooches. These range in price from Rs 1,650 to Rs 2,250, depending on the size of the dog and the style of the rainwear. Raincoats can also be customized for those who are particular about canine chic! Matching raincoats for owners (priced at Rs 5,000 onward for adults and Rs 2,000 onward for children) are available as well for those who wish to coordinate their ensembles with those of their pets!

Sonya Vajifdar’s designer rainwear for people and pooches

In an e-mail to Parsiana Vajifdar reveals that she has launched an exclusive rainwear collection for 2010. "I was invited to show my line at a pre London fashion week show at Movida, London in February 2010, which was well received. There were six international designers showing their 2010 collections and I was asked to open the show, with international catwalk models.” Pieces from this collection are on display at Attic in Bandra and Bombay Electric in Colaba. Designer rainwear for children can be sourced from Kidology in Delhi and Bombay Electric.

Another useful accessory available at the doggie shop is waterproof slipper socks. Vajifdar says "Slipper socks are very essential; they prevent dogs from dirtying your floor with their muddy feet. Plus they look very cute wearing all this.” At Rs 500 a set, cuteness comes at a price! "It’s not pampering, it’s a need. It’s a chance to get them (the pets) dressed up properly, to make them look nice,” HT Café quotes Malhi.
