“Disappointed in Udvada”

In her letter "Disappointed in Udvada” (Readers’ Forum, Parsiana, December 7, 2009) Roda D. Hakim has complained about the growth of grass in the newly created museum in Udvada. I also read the comments of Dinshaw Tamboly. While Hakim is right because a place like a museum has to be a showcase, Tamboly’s difficulties are legitimate.
In order to solve this problem permanently, I suggest that instead of having a lush green lawn, there should be a Japanese style, low maintenance rock garden. In such a garden the lawn is mostly covered with wood chips or river stones, except for a big circle in the middle where either a little fir tree, a sago palm, a fountain or Lord Buddha’s statue is placed. So that weeds may not grow through the stones, all the grass will need to be cleared from the roots and the ground covered with red soil.
