BPP housing scheme
Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) trustee Khojeste Mistree "has initiated an ambitious scheme to provide 3,000 tenements to poor Zoroastrian families vide a mass housing scheme,” states the Afternoon Despatch and Courier of July 17, 2009.
"The proposal has been approved in principle by the Punchayet and a task force of eminent community members, "including Hafeez Contractor, Boman Irani, Rusi Khambatta, Rohinton Mehta, Fali Poncha, Ratan Dubash, Noshir Kotwal and several others.
"The main thrust of the scheme is aimed at a broad-based representation of Parsis, even those living in far-flung Bombay suburbs. The aim is to help spread Parsi colony culture.
"The old ORK (one room kitchen) flats will be replaced by 2-BHK (bedroom hall kitchen) flats admeasuring 650 sq ft. Infrastructural facilities such as a club house, gymnasium, crèche, prayer hall, etc have been provided.”
No source is cited by the ADC for the story. The BPP has around 1,000 applicants on its waiting list for housing.
