“Hopeful” housing
The plans for construction of new towers after demolishing a building at the Bombay Parsi Punchayet’s (BPP) Nirlon complex in Goregaon have been "prepared by our architect I. H. Shah and will shortly be submitted to the Bombay Municipal Corporation (BMC) for sanction,” stated BPP chairman Dinshaw Mehta in his chairman’s Message in the August 2012 The BPP Review.
Development at Nowroz Baug in Lalbaug and S. B. Bharucha Baug in Andheri still faces hurdles but Mehta is "hopeful” that the objections and difficulties can be overcome.
Mehta also mentioned that "the Planning Commission has declared a scheme to assist the dwindling population of the Parsi (Zoroastrian) community… a budgetary provision of Rs 2 crore (US $ 363,636) has been made for the scheme in the current fiscal,” which aims to address the issue through fertility treatments and awareness campaigns. The government’s move comes on the back of the National Commission for Minorities’ demand for an elaborate survey of the community. To convince the Plan panel, the Minority Affairs Ministry produced Census 2011 figures (these figures have not been released to the public as yet — editors) which showed the rapid decline of the community’s population. The minister said that the scheme will be implemented through organizations or societies of the Parsis.”
