New BPP trustees
I am a Zoroastrian widower with five grown children all with their own families. Since none of us lives in Bombay we can uniquely sit on the fence and watch all that transpires in the Bombay Parsi Punchayet (BPP) kingdom which almost without fail is treated as representative of "all” Parsis.
At today’s statistics I would stick out my neck to believe that the number of Parsis/Iranis in Bombay is in a minority as compared to the total number in cities elsewhere and in the diaspora.
Furthermore, the individual or collective views, beliefs or actions of the trustees extends only to their mandate over Parsi trust properties. They have no right to expound their views on matters of scripture or religion, or issues such as dakhmenashini, burial or cremation. Nor can they claim the right to educate the liberal thought process.
The trustees should stick to what they have been elected for and desist from putting over themselves the shawl of religious knowledge or "scholarly” rights. They must realize that they have been elected as administrators, not as scholars. RASHID MINOCHER
