Ripon Club meet
Accepting women as full-fledged members of the Ripon Club has been approved in principle, now the technical and legal amendments have to be examined and drafted, said Club president Rusi N. Sethna addressing the annual general meeting on March 27, 2009.
Up till now women could become associate or lady members with no right to vote or stand for elections. Once they are regular members, their spouses and children should receive the same right as those of other full-fledged male members.
Talks with the landlord and lawyers regarding the eviction notice received from the landlord, the M. N. Wadia Trust are in progress, said Sethna. Members would be kept informed of developments.
A hike in membership entrance fees from Rs 16,000 to Rs 25,000 and for life membership from Rs 33,000 to Rs 50,000 has been approved. A proposal for converting ordinary membership into life membership for existing annual subscription paying members is also being considered, said Mehli Cama, a trustee of the Club.
Regarding generating more income for the Club, a proposal has been received from Farrokh Khambata of Catering and Allied who runs the highly successful eatery, Joss, at Kala Ghoda. When a member asked for a time bound program for augmenting the income, Sethna replied the proposal had been received a week ago and the management needed time to study the plan.
