Appeal for land
In Defense of Animals, India (IDA India) was established in 1996 and in the last 11 years we have made great strides in alleviating the suffering of animals. Today we manage two centers in Bombay and Vashi (New Bombay) where we sterilize around 800 dogs every month and treat around 150 ill or injured animals brought in by our three ambulances from every nook and corner of both cities. We also run two mobile clinics to treat animals with minor ailments on the road itself. In addition, we hold veterinary camps for horses that give joy rides in Bombay. We have a center at Neral for horses working in and around Matheran, Kalyan and Titwala. We also conduct awareness programs especially for children and rescue animals that are subjected to cruelty.
Our next project will be to start a hospital for animals in the suburbs of Bombay. At present there is only one veterinary hospital, The Bai Sakarbai Dinshaw Petit Hospital for Animals in Parel. This 130-year-old hospital was started when Bombay city’s limits ended at Mahim and Kings Circle. Today with Bombay extending beyond Dahisar in the western suburbs and Mulund in the eastern suburbs, there is a great need for a second hospital to cater to the needs of an increased number of animals.
Recently our vice president Fizzah Shah won a contest organized by a television channel for which she will receive Rs 30 lakhs as prize money which she has donated to IDA India for the second hospital. However, land being an extremely scarce commodity, we request any kind-hearted, noble person or corporate giants to donate an acre of land either in Bombay city or its suburbs or in New Bombay where we can set up an excellent world class hospital for animals in the name of the donor.
