Outstanding scientist

Dr Roozan Parvez Bharucha, chief scientist, Technatronics Research and Development Organization (TRDO), Gandhi­nagar and Baroda region, has been nominated by SAMTRIX – Russia in several different categories for their SAMTRIX International Achievers’ Awards (SIAA). This young scientist from Gujarat is among the top five candidates in 56 out of 60 premier categories of their awards disclosed by the organization on February 24, 2008. This is the highest number of nominations obtained by any individual in SIAA, informs community commentator Noshir H. Dadrawala in an e-mail to Parsiana. The official awards from these nominations will be declared on June 14, 2008.

Roozan Bharucha: scientific innovations

It was Bharucha’s innovation of various high quality industrial application security devices and also a life-saving cancer detection machine which opened the doors of SIAA for him. The security devices include individual identification systems such as scanners for fingerprints, palms, voice, iris (eye), heartbeat and face. All these devices work on the principle of radiophysics where the radioactive elements emit certain radiations onto the area being scanned, thus producing the exact pattern of the individual and providing the best biometric identification security system with an accuracy factor of 98 percent, the highest in any biometric identification devices, Dadrawala writes.

Advanced high focal radio rays are used by a P-ray metabolism detector (PMD) to identify cancerous tissues in the human body. A prototype of the PMD system developed by Bharucha has been manufactured for demonstration and was successfully tested at Washington General Medical Research Center in the USA on March 10, 2007, mentions Da­dra­wala. This versatile equipment can be used for normal X-rays, USG (sonogra­phy), CT (computed tomography) scan, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging), PET (positron emission tomography) scan, spiral CT scan, advanced PET scan, painless biopsy, automatic common surgery, manual robotic surgery and wireless communication surgery. In the history of medical science PMD is the only system ever designed to combine all the existing technologies in a single unit and is sure to bring about a revolution in the practice of medicine, the e-mail adds.
