Speaking to the media on September 18, 2007 in Bombay, Noel Tata, managing director of Trent Limited, unveiled the company’s tieup with one of the world’s leading clothing companies, Benetton, to market its premium Sisley brand in India. "We would be investing Rs 40-50 crore in the venture over a five to seven year period and plan to open 20-30 stores (in that time),” Tata stated.

The Sisley stores would be standalone outlets and would not be clubbed with existing Trent brands such as Westside, Landmark or Star Bazaar. "Our identical thoughts on how Sisley can be launched and branded in India resulted in this tieup,” Tata was quoted in the Hindustan Times, September 19.

"We launched the Sisley brand in India last year. During this period we tested the waters and got a feel of the market. This convinced us to expand with the Tatas,” Benetton Group’s deputy chairman Alessandro Benetton told newsmen.
