Tiger tale

Biscuits major Britannia Industries under chairman Nusli Wadia has initiated legal action in Singapore against joint venture partner Group Danone of France (with whom a split seems imminent) over intellectual property rights (IPR) of its popular biscuit brand Tiger, states the Hindustan Times, September 21. Britannia’s IPR committee consisting of managing director Vinita Bali and independent directors Keki Dadiseth, Nimesh Kampani and Vijay Kelkar, is said to have recommended the course of action.

Nusli Wadia: protecting IPR

"Speculation about an impending deal between the Wadia Group’s flagship Bombay Dyeing and Manufacturing Company Limited and the US-based private equity (PE) major Blackstone refuses to die,” notes The Times of India, September 19. The Economic Times had reported on September 13 that Bombay Dyeing, which needs money to expand its real estate and the Group’s airline business along with its planned forays into retail, may consider the PE route as one option for raising funds. "The deal may not happen if the Wadia family feels that money can be easily obtained through other means such as a rights issue,” the paper analysed.
